Problem solving is an important skill not only in a professional aspect, but in every part of our everyday lives. It starts developing from a young age and it is considered a crucial skill for school readiness. As we mature, we also learn that it is one of the key skills that an employer seeks in job applicants. What is problem solving though and can it be enhanced even later in life?
To put it simply, problem solving is the way to solve a problem. It is a process that consists of a few steps that follow a precise sequence: Problem finding (recognizing/identifying the problem to be solved), Problem setting (definitions are set), Brainstorming (a wide range of possible solutions is defined), Decision making (evaluation of each idea –choosing what is most effective) and Decision taking (application of the chosen solution –constant evaluation of the results).
Of course, problem solving skills can be improved. Lifelong learning allows for the development of professional skills. In adult education the classroom becomes a place of work and discussion among peers and such skills can thrive. In our project you can find tools and methodologies that facilitate problem solving processes and learning paths that have identified common problems occurring during teaching (from both the educator’s and the learners’ point of view) and suggestions on how to combat them.
